Who is Patricia Cori?
Patricia Cori is an adventurous and a dreamer, and that has taken me all around the world. I’m very interests in the real true about whom we are and the people in this planet. I love to know more about history that is not written yet, the secrets of the planets… I’m always exploring. I am an Explorer and that’s how I end it up here, but I’m sure you will ask me.

E qual é o verdadeiro sentido da vida?
Obviamente ninguém pode responder a isso, mas eu acho que um dos pensamentos mais importantes sobre a vida é encontrar a alegria. Estamos tão condicionados ao que pensamos que precisamos ter, com a atividade diária que temos para conseguir aquelas coisas que esquecemos de viver. Esquecemos que já temos tudo o que precisamos. Obviamente, precisamos de uma casa e conforto básico, mas, e pode vê-lo aqui … algumas pessoas aprenderam a viver com algumas coisas. A minha ideia do que é importante na vida é estar perto da natureza e estar no presente. Viver todos os dias como se fossem o último dia. É tudo sobre encontrar o equilíbrio entre as nossas metas e as nossas necessidades reais … o que você faria se este fosse o seu último dia?
What’s the real meaning of life?
Obviously no one can tell you that, but I think that one of the most important thinks about life is finding joy. We became so conditioned to what we think we need to have, with the daily activity that we have to get those things that we forget to survive. We forget that we already have everything we need. Obviously we need a house and basic comfort, but, and you can see it here… some people have learnt to live with such a few things. My idea on what’s important in life is to be close to nature and to be in the present. Live everyday as if it was the last day.
It’s all about finding the balance between or goals and real needs… what would you do if this was your last day?
Quando começou a escrever?
Eu começei a escrever em 1996. Eu não tinha experiência. Eu tenho educação académica mas nunca tive aulas de escrita … apenas inspiração. Meu primeiro livro intitulou-se “Cosmos da alma”. Eu faço a gestão de um centro alternativo com yoga, meditação entre outras coisas, e inspirei-me para escrever um livro sobre o universo, coisas metafísicas… o que é a natureza do universo … este livro saiu de mim tão rápido. Encontrei um editor e ele apenas disse que “este livro é como uma resposta às minhas orações”. Eu entrei nesta experiência sem saber o que ia acontecer e agora tenho 13 livros publicados.
When did you start writing?
I start writing in 1996. I had no experience. I’ve collegue education but I never had writing classes… it was just inspiration. My first book was called “Cosmos of soul”. I run and alternative center for stuffs life yoga, meditation and so, and I got inspired to write a book about the universe, metaphysical kind of things… what’s the nature of the universe… this book came out of me so fast. I’ve written it in two weeks. I found a publisher and he just said “this book is like an answer to my prayers”. I got into this experience without knowing what was going to happen and now I have 13 published books.
Todos os seus livros falam-nos sobre temas relacionados com o fantástico … é tudo tão irreal … por quê?
Bem, deixe-me dizer-lhe algo … Eu realmente não sei se isso é real porque aceitamos as coisas como elas nos são dadas… mas e o que está para além disso? Mesmo Deus não é concreto … o que está acontecendo lá fora nas estrelas? No Universo?
All your books talk us about themes related to the fantastic… it’s all so unreal… why?
Well, let me tell you something… I don’t really know if any of this is real because we accept things as they are given to us… but and what’s beyond that? Even God is not concrete… what’s going on out there on the stars? On the Universe?

Alguns dos meus livros têm um público muito particular. Eles focam temas como a saúde, o efeito de microondas no nosso corpo, por exemplo.
The truth is that you already have 13 books published, so the public likes them…
Some off my books have a very particular audience. They talk about thinks that we also need to think, like health, the microwave effect on our body, for example.
Como é o processo de escrita? Você faz muita pesquisa?
Eu não faço pesquisa … Eu sou a escritora mais estranha que vai encontrar. Eu sento-me e escrevo quando estou inspirada.
Todas as regras da escrita eu não as sigo. Eu fico inspirada e escrevo sobre o que me vai na alma.
Este último livro, “The Emissary” é um novo tipo de escrita. É um romance, com ficção científica. Ele fala de uma mulher que é como um médium, e ela tem conexão com as baleias que lhes começam a dar-lhe informações. Elas dizem-lhe que precisam de ajuda e ela vê-se assim envolvida numa situação com o governo secreto …
How is the process of writing? Do you do a lot of research?
I don’t do research… I’m the weird writer that you will ever know. I sit and write when I am inspired.
All the rules of writing I don’t follow them. I get inspired and I write on what I need to.
This last book, “The Emissary” is a new kind of writing. It’s a novel, with science fiction. It talks about a woman who is like a medium, and she as connection to the whales and they start giving her some information. They tell her that they need help and she gets up involved with a situation with the secret government…
E de onde você tira toda essa inspiração?
Essa é uma pergunta que muitas pessoas me fazem …. Eu sigo o meu instinto. Eu vim aqui pela primeira vez porque eu acreditei que havia alguma ligação entre mim e as baleias … como eu, muitas pessoas também sentem o mesmo.
And where do you get all that inspiration?
That’s a question that lots of people ask me…. I just follow my instinct. I’ve came here for the first time because I belived that there was some connections between me and the whales… such as I do, lots of people also feel the same.
Por que você escolheu vir ao Faial e morar aqui?
Eu vim aqui em 2010 porque estava escrevendo um livro chamado “Before we leave you”, sobre baleias e golfinhos então eu achei, “bem, se eu vou escrever sobre isso eu tenho que saltar no oceano e estar com estes seres”. Estive no mar duas horas com 250 golfinhos. É impossível descrever. Eu apenas pensei “Estou em uma experiência mágica”.
Toda essa experiência me fez querer morar aqui. Isso é perfeição. Voltei para casa – eu estava a viver em Roma – e disse a meu namorado que tinha que voltar.
Algo mágico aconteceu comigo aqui no Faial. Peguei em todas as minhas economias e comprei a minha casa. Todos esses anos eu estive aqui nos verões, mas desde abril que o Faial é minha casa.
Para mim, este é o paraíso na Terra.
Why have you chosen to come to Faial and to live here?
I came here in 2010 because I was writing a book named “Before we leave you”, and it talks about whales and dolphins so I figure, “well if I’m going to write about it I have to jump into the ocean and be with them”. I had an unbelievable experience with bottle nose dolphins for about 2 hours. It’s impossible to describe. I just thought “I’m in a magical experience”. It was really life changing.
All this experience made me want to live here. This is perfection. I went back home – back them I was living in Rome – and I said my boyfriend that I had to came back.
Something magical happened to me here in Faial. I took all my savings and I bought my house. All this years I have been here in the summers but, since April that Faial is my home.
For me, this is paradise on Earth.
Você conhece bem a ilha? O que você acha que precisamos no Faial?
Provavelmente quem não é de cá sente falta de algumas coisas, mas … eu tinha tudo e deixei porque era demais. O que o Faial me dá é o suficiente. Eu tenho tudo que eu preciso: paz, natureza e pessoas doces.
Do you know the island well? What do you think that we need in Faial?
Probably if you are from here you feel it better than I do, but… I had it all and I left it because it was too much. What Faial gives me it’s enough. I have all I need: peace, nature and sweet people.
Recomendaria a ilha aos seus amigos e familiares? Como reagiram quando decidiram vir?
A maioria deles tem ciúmes. E a maioria diz me que sou abençoada e sortuda, mas é apenas uma questão de escolhas.
Would you recommend it to your friends and family? How did they react when you decided to come?
Most of them are jealous. And most of them tell me I’m blessed and lucky, but it’s just a matter of choices.
Voltando aos seus livros … foi recentemente premiado no London Independent Film Festival 2017 com “Melhor Guião”, com ” Elephants in the room”.
“Elephants in the room ” é uma história – e quando você me perguntou sobre o meu método – eu acordei de manhã e lembrei-me do meu sonho completo … foi esta história. Eu sentei-me e comecei a escrever. Levei 28 dias. É uma história sobre um casal rico em Nova York que tem uma vida perfeita … mas eles também têm uma criança de 6 anos de idade com autismo. Todos são infelizes … o que parece uma vida perfeita não existe. Eles vão para a África e lá acontecem coisas mágicas sobretudo com a criança. É uma história sobre o verdadeiro si gnificado da vida … e como eles o encontram.
Returning to your books… you were recently awarded in the London Independent Film Festival 2017 with “Best Featured Screenplay”, with “Elephants in the room”. Can you tell me something about it?
“Elephants in the room” it’s a story, and when you asked me about my method, in which I wake up in a morning and I remembered my complete dream… it was this story. I sit down and I started writing it. It took me 28 days. It’s a story about a rich couple in New York that have a perfect life… but they also have a 6 years old child with autism. Everybody is unhappy… what it seems a perfect life does not exist. They go to Africa and there magical things happen and the child. Talks about the real meaning of life… and how they find it.
“Elephants in the room” it’s going to become a movie.
O que esse prémio significa para si? Está preparada para ver sua escrita na tela?
Eu não posso esperar! É difícil para um escritor imaginar que o que sai de sua mente criativa vai ser trazido à vida por outra pessoa, usando sua arte. Tenho 3 ou tros roteiros escritos, mas é muito difícil transformá-lo no filme porque é muito caro.
What does this award means to you? Are you prepared to see your writing on the screen?
I can’t wait! It’s hard to imagine to a writer that what comes out of your creative mind it’s going to be brought to life by someone else, using their art.
I have 3 other screenplays written, but it’s very hard to transform it in film because it’s very expensive.

Estou a pensar fazer um documentário aqui. Estou apaixonada por esta ilha e isso inspira-me. Esta é a minha base, é o ambiente perfeito para um escritor e tenho uma série de histórias saindo de mim …
What are your expectations here in Faial?
I’m thinking on doing a documentary here. I’m in love with this island and it inspires me. This is my base, it’s the perfect environment for a writer and I have a lot of stories coming out of me… g
